My first post

Welcome to my Tick Green blog.

My objectives for this space on the web are to publish my thoughts on the issues we face, primarily with a focus on climate change and the ways in which we can work together to improve the outlook for our planet. Being the founder of www.tickgreen.com I have a vested interest in making the technology we use every day (primarily the internet) green but more than that, I think that if we all take the small steps required to lead a slightly simpler, more responsible life then we can avert the possible crisis that we are facing.

So, the Tick Green blog will hopefully be a place where I can voice my thoughts, refine my ideas and build strategies to help us make technology green. If you find it useful I'd love to know.

2 - 3% of the world's total energy consumption is accounted for by data centres. That's mainly websites that are causing this massive drain on energy and emission of carbon... if we can remove this carbon from the atmosphere starting with reforestation then I think that's a great beginning. Then we have to look at ways of making our servers much more energy efficient and powering our data centres with renewable energy sources.

There's a long way to go but here is a good place to start!
